NAIROBI, Feb. 25 (Xinhua) -- Italian volleyball instructor Mauro Berruto and Sherif El Shemerly from Egypt have been selected to conduct a three day coaches' seminar in Nairobi later this week.
The seminar, which is sponsored by African Volleyball Confederation (CAVB) brings together 40 international and 30 local coaches as part of the continent's preparations ahead of the Olympic Games qualifiers.
Waithaka Kioni, chairman of Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF), said here Monday, "We are grateful to CAVB for their trust in Kenya and the support in volleyball over the years. This seminar is necessary for upping the skills of our coaches with new coaching methodologies and systems."
Kenya, which will play against Italy, the Netherlands and Belgium in the Olympic qualifiers, have recruited another Italian coach Shailene Ramdoo to guide the team through the qualification process.
FIVB Italian top instructor Mauro Berruto and CAVB Coaches Commission president Sherif El Shemerly will instruct and direct the three-day high performance coaching seminar.
The 70 coaches are mainly from Kenya, Benin, Botswana, Burundi, Cameroon, Egypt, Malawi, Mauritius, Morocco, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Swaziland, Tanzania, Tunisia and Uganda.
These countries will all be involved in the Africa Games in Morocco in August and the Africa Olympic Games qualifiers, which will start in January 2020.
"We are planning to start our preparations in April. Currently our players are with their clubs preparing for the continental club championship," said David Lung'aho, KVF technical director.
The qualification for the Tokyo Olympic women's volleyball tournament features 12 berths: host Japan, the winners of each of six intercontinental qualifying tournaments, and five continental qualification tournament champions.
