TOKYO, Feb. 27 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed higher Wednesday as investor sentiment was improved after U.S. Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell indicated there would be no interest rate hikes soon.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 107.12 points, or 0.50 percent, from Tuesday to close the day at 21,556.51.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 3.22 points, or 0.20 percent, to finish at 1,620.42.
Pharmaceutical, construction and real estate-linked issues comprised those that gained the most by the close of play.
