JUBA, Feb. 27 (Xinhua) -- South Sudan's peace monitors on Wednesday said that fidelity to the rule of law and good governance are key to achieving durable peace in the country.

Augostino Njoroge, interim chairperson of the Reconstituted Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission, said at a forum in Juba that a review of security laws in the country can play a crucial role in ending more than five years of conflict.

He said representatives from different institutions who attended the forum discussed the Sudan People's Liberation Act, 2019, the National Security Service Act, 2014, the Police Service Act, 2009, the Prisons Service Act, 2011 and the wildlife Service Act, 2011.

Njoroge applauded the approach by the National Constitution Amendment Committee to involve as many stakeholders as possible and encourage participation in the process of the amendment and review of the security laws.

"I acknowledge and appreciate the level of interest that you have all shown during this process as we work together towards the strengthening of the legal framework that will ensure a successful transition to the rule of law and lasting peace in this country," said Njoroge.
