BEIJING, March 1 (Xinhua) -- More than 30 days after his historical moment of becoming China's youngest professional boxing world champion, Xu Can was crowned the first Chinese 'five-star' boxer.
Xu, 24, was given 79 points on the BoxRec website, which is dedicated to holding updated records of professional boxers. Xu is the youngest active five-star featherweight boxer.
Xu turned professional in 2013 and compiled a record of 15-2 before becoming China's first World Boxing Association (WBA) champion, defeating Jesus Rojas of Puerto Rico by unanimous decision to take the WBA featherweight title after an action-packed 12 rounds on January 26.
Since winning the title, Xu has been under a greater spotlight. But he told Xinhua that his only focus is preparing for his upcoming title defense.
"I'll just keep calm and carry on," Xu said. "There are always doubts, hundreds of voices saying 'you can't make it'. But the reason to carry on is simple - you really love it."
