MEXICO CITY, March 1 (Xinhua) -- The Mexican Navy seized 816 kg cocaine and arrested three men on a boat in the Pacific off the coast of the southern state of Guerrero.

Mexico's Ministry of the Navy said in a statement released Friday that officers with the Eighth Naval Region, based in the Port of Acapulco, deployed the operation after spying the boat during a patrol.

The Navy intercepted the speedboat on the high seas and arrested three Mexican crewmen, according to a video filmed from a plane and released by the Navy.

On the boat, Navy officers found 816 kg cocaine in packages hidden in containers and two small packages with marijuana.

It is the second shipment of cocaine seized by the Navy in less than a week along the Pacific coast of Mexico. On Wednesday, they seized 726 kg cocaine off the coast of Chiapas state.

During the first two months of 2019, the Mexican Navy has seized 13 tons of cocaine, marijuana and synthetic drugs off the Mexican coast, according to the statement.

"We've prevented the cargo from being retrieved by other boats belonging to criminal groups and arriving at their final destination," it said.

The cocaine seized off the Pacific coast by authorities is generally trafficked by drug cartels from South or Central America on its way to the United States, the agency has previously said.
