"How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World" wins North American box office for second weekend in a row

LOS ANGELES, March 3 (Xinhua) -- Fending off newcomers, Universal and DreamWorks' animated fantasy film "How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World" repeated as the winner of the North American box office with an estimated 30.04 million U.S. dollars in its second weekend.

Loosely based on the book series of the same name by Cressida Cowell, the film is the final installment in the "How to Train Your Dragon" film trilogy. Directed by Canadian director Dean DeBlois, the film features an all-star voice cast including Gerard Butler, Craig Ferguson, Jay Baruchel, Cate Blanchett and America Ferrera and the plot follows Hiccup seeking a dragon utopia called "The Hidden World."

The film has earned 97.69 million dollars in North America for a global total of 375.4 million dollars, according to studio figures collected by measurement firm Comscore.

Lionsgate's comedy film "A Madea Family Funeral" opened in a close second with an estimated 27.05 million dollars. It's the eleventh and final installment of the 15-year-old Madea film series. Directed and written by Tyler Perry, the plot centers on a joyous family reunion that becomes a nightmare as Madea and the crew travel to backwoods Georgia, where they find themselves unexpectedly planning a funeral that might unveil unsavory family secrets.

Fox's cyberpunk action film "Alita: Battle Angel" came in third with an estimated 7 million dollars in its third weekend for a North American total of 72.23 million dollars.

Based on Japanese manga series "Gunnm," the sci-fi epic is directed by Robert Rodriquez and produced by James Cameron. American actress Rosa Salazar stars as Alita, a cyborg, who wakes up in a doctor's clinic with no memory of who she is. She must soon use her extraordinary fighting abilities to combat deadly forces while trying to uncover the truth behind her mysterious past.

Warner Bros.' animated adventure comedy film "Lego Movie 2: The Second Part" landed in fourth in its fourth weekend with an estimated 6.61 million dollars for a North American total of 91.67 million dollars.

Directed by Mike Mitchell, the film is a direct sequel to 2014's "The Lego Movie." "Lego Movie 2: The Second Part" reunites the heroes of Bricksburg in an all new action-packed adventure to save their beloved city. The battle to defeat invaders and restore harmony to the LEGO universe will take Emmet, Lucy, Batman and their friends to faraway, unexplored worlds.

Benefitted from its Oscar win as Best Picture, Universal's "Green Book" finished fifth in its 16th weekend, bringing in 4.71 million dollars for a North American total of 75.92 million dollars. The film also won another two Oscars awards last week for Best Supporting Actor and Best Original Screenplay.

Directed by Farrelly and set in the 1960s, "Green Book" follows African-American classical and jazz pianist Don Shirley and Tony Vallelonga, an Italian-American bouncer who serves as Shirley's driver and bodyguard, on a tour through the racially divided South.
