ADEN, Yemen, March 4 (Xinhua) -- At least one Yemeni people was killed and 11 others wounded when an explosion ripped through a popular market in Yemen's southwestern province of Taiz on Monday, a local medic told Xinhua.
The Taiz-based medic said on condition of anonymity that an explosive device went off in Delux popular market in the center of Taiz province, killing one at the scene.
He added that the explosion also caused the injury of 11 others, including some with serious injuries.
According to other security officials in Taiz, the explosion occurred at the entrance to the market, which is frequently visited by large numbers of citizens and shoppers every day.
The center of Taiz is under the control of the government, while the outskirts of the city and areas in the countryside of the province are still witnessing armed confrontations between pro-government forces and the Houthi rebels.
Elsewhere in Yemen, four people from one family were injured Monday when a landmine exploded in a residential area in the southern province of al-Dhalea, according to local media reports.
Large areas in the northern and western parts of al-Dhalea province are still witnessing ongoing confrontations between the Houthis and government forces.
The impoverished Arab country has been locked into a civil war since late 2014, when Shiite Houthi rebels overran much of the country and seized all northern provinces, including the capital Sanaa.
