ULAN BATOR, March 7 (Xinhua) -- Mongolia's National Center for Communicable Disease (NCCD) on Thursday confirmed the first case of measles in the country since 2016.
"The patient is a foreign citizen (Indian) who recently arrived in Mongolia to work at Oyu Tolgoi copper-gold mine in the southern Mongolian province of Umnugovi," Dulmaa Nyamkhuu, head of the NCCD, told a press conference.
The patient and 12 people who communicated with him have been isolated to prevent the spread of the disease, Nyamkhuu said.
Measles is a highly contagious viral disease transmitted by respiratory droplets and direct contact. The disease can be prevented by immunization. Common complications include fever, dry cough, runny nose, sore throat and inflamed eyes.
There is no specific treatment for measles, and most people recover within two to three weeks.
