ISLAMABAD, March 7 (Xinhua) -- At least 121 people have been arrested by Pakistani law enforcement agencies during last four days as the country speeded up crackdown on proscribed organizations banned by the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), local media reported Thursday.
Local Urdu TV Channel SAMAA quoted sources from the Interior Ministry as saying that all the detained people are active members of different banned organizations and they have been shifted to different locations for interrogation.
According to the reports, the Pakistani government has also taken charge of 182 schools including religious seminaries, five colleges, 163 dispensaries, 184 ambulances, eight management offices being run by the proscribed organizations.
Different law enforcement agencies and government departments are taking part in the operation against the banned outfits, including Jamaat-ud-Dawa, Falah-e-Insaniat Foundation and Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM).
Earlier on Tuesday, Pakistan's Minister of State for Interior Shehryar Afridi announced that the government had launched a countrywide crackdown on such organizations and it would continue till achievement of objectives.
The minister said Pakistan's policy is very clear against terrorism and extremism. Pakistan will not allow anybody to use its land for any ill purposes.
The campaign was approved during a high-level meeting held in the Ministry of Interior this month, which was attended by all representatives of all provincial governments, a statement by the ministry said.
Pakistan started the procedure to implement the UNSC sanctions against designated individuals and entities following escalated tensions with India caused by a suicide bomb attack in the Indian-controlled Kashmir, which killed over 40 Indian paramilitary troopers last month.
India blamed the JeM for the attack and some Indian leaders had pointed fingers at Pakistan, which had denied the allegations.
Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan said that Pakistan will take action if India provides actionable evidence and information.
According to local media, India has provided a list of dossiers about the suicide attack to Pakistan and government authorities are analyzing the evidence.
