YANGON, March 12 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar has announced suspending the import of pork and pork-related products from foreign countries suffering from the African Swine Fever (ASF) outbreaks.
According to the statement issued by the Yangon International Airport Coordination Committee, the import of pigs, pork, frozen port, pork jerky, sausages and all other pork-related products has been temporarily suspended to prevent the viral disease from entering the country.
Trade of pigs and pork-related products will be restrained at the country's border gates, airports and ports.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation called for strict preventive measures against the disease in the country and disease detection at pig farms.
According to the World Organization for Animal Health, the ASF is a severe contagious disease affecting domestic and wild pigs which can be spread by live or dead pigs, and there is no approved vaccine against the ASF.
