ATHENS, March 14 (Xinhua) -- Greece has registered 118 flu-related deaths during the current flu season which started last autumn, with most of them linked to the H1N1 strain, according to the country's Center for Disease Control and Prevention (KEELPNO) on Thursday.
Despite the recession of the flu, another seven people died of the virus last week. According to the latest evidence from the KEELPNO epidemiological observation report, the seasonal flu phenomenon has begun to subside, but has not disappeared yet.
Based on the latest figures, in the week March 4-10, the total of the visits to the doctor with flu symptoms were reduced compared with the first week of March.
The number of patients who have been hospitalized with serious symptoms from last October to March 10 is 353, with most of them treated in the Intensive Care Unit.
Of the 118 victims of the influenza, 78 were men and 40 women, with ages ranging from 0 to 90 years old and an average age of 69 years old.
According to experts, vaccination, even if late in the flu season, remains the best possible protection from the virus.
