ISTANBUL, March 15 (Xinhua) -- Turkish police on Friday defused a homemade explosive device found on a roadside in Istanbul, local media said.
A bomb squad was called in after a suspicious package was spotted on the roadside of the Trans European Motorway in the European-side district of Kagithane, the Haberturk daily said, while the Hurriyet daily claimed there were two packages on the scene.
The highway was closed to traffic for three hours, resulting in an extensive jam, press reports said.
The explosive device inserted inside a pot was later detonated, Haberturk said.
