CHINA-INNER MONGOLIA-ORDOS-DESERTIFICATION CURBING (CN)

Aerial photo taken on March 19, 2019 shows villager loading salix saplings on the truck at Guanjing Village of Dalad Qi in Ordos, north China's Inner Mongolia. Villagers have planted the trees to curb desertification since the 1990s at Guanjing Village of Dalad Qi in Ordos which is located at the border area of Kubuqi Desert. After years of planting, the salix area has reached to 123, 000 mu (8, 200 hectares), accounting for a large proportion of the 192,000-mu (12,800-hectares) forest area in the village. The salix saplings fostered here help to prevent lands from desertification and also enjoy great popularity in the market for its high-quality. Planting and selling salix saplings has become one way to raise the income for the villagers. (Xinhua/Zou Yu)
