TRIPOLI, March 21 (Xinhua) -- Libya's Interior Ministry on Thursday announced that it is ready to protect the municipal elections to be held in March and April.
"The Ministry of Interior declares its full readiness to secure and protect this national duty, and that it has ordered the General Directorate of Security Operations to follow up the security process to secure the elections," the ministry said in a statement.
The ministry added that all its services "will stand against anyone trying to spoil this important duty, and that security and police officers are far from political strife."
Libya has more than 100 municipalities representing different cities and regions of the country.
The mandate has ended for the 2014-elected municipal councils in Libya. The election law stipulates that the municipal council only has a four-year non-renewable term.
