MUMBAI, March 22 (Xinhua) -- Death toll in the building collapse at Dharwad in Karnataka state rose to 15 and the investigating team has arrested the architect of the building while the owners of the building surrendered to the police on Friday.
The four owners of the building and one architect will appear before the magistrate Friday, investigating official Nagesh DL said.
The accused have applied for anticipatory bail. The building collapsed in Kumareshwar Nagar of the state's Dharwad district on Tuesday.
Last night, Dharwad Additional District Magistrate Suresh Itnal told Xinhua that efforts were being made to ensure that the 18 to 20 still estimated to be trapped under the debris were rescued alive.
He said that as many as 56 people have been rescued so far and the relief and rescue work was expected to continue for the next two to three days.
Two persons were rescued alive even after 36 hours of the building collapse, with no major injuries, he said.
