AMMAN, March 22 (Xinhua) -- Jordan on Friday said that the Golan Heights is an occupied Syrian territory in line with all international resolutions, the state-run Petra news agency reported.
Jordan's Minister of Foreign Affairs Ayman Safadi made the remarks after the announcement made by U.S. President Donald Trump about Golan Heights.
Trump said on Thursday on Twitter that it is time for the United States to recognize Israel's sovereignty over the occupied Golan Heights, which it seized from Syria in 1967.
"Lasting and comprehensive peace requires Israel's withdrawal from all occupied Arab territories and the Golan Heights is part of these occupied lands," Safadi said.
He said that the UN resolution 497 for 1981 rejects Israel's decision to annex the Golan Heights.
The minister stressed the need that the international community should abide by the international legitimacy resolutions in this regard.
