ATHENS, March 24 (Xinhua) -- Greece's main opposition conservative New Democracy (ND) party leads over the ruling Radical Left SYRIZA party, local newspaper Vima reported on Sunday, citing latest opinion poll on voters' intentions regarding the next general elections.
Should ballots were held this Sunday, ND would win garnering 36.8 percent of votes and SYRIZA would rank second with 26 percent, according to the survey carried out by Metron Analysis polling firm.
The ultra Right Chrysi Avgi (Golden Dawn) party would follow with 7.5 percent of votes, then the centre Left Movement of Change (KINAL), with 7.4 percent, while Greece's Communist Party KKE, which received 6.2 percent of votes, would be the last party entering the next assembly after securing the minimum 3-percent-vote threshold required under the election law.
Pollsters noted that beyond the battle for the first place, political parties in Greece should consider voters' disgruntlement and mistrust of the entire political system after a decade of financial crisis, Vima reported.
Asked about their top concerns, 42 percent of the respondents said it was the economy, 17 percent mentioned unemployment and 9 percent said it was the political system. Another 5 percent were concerned about the management of foreign affairs and 4 percent, the lack of investments.
Seven out of ten respondents gave negative marks to the current administration of Alexis Tsipras.
In parallel, six in ten respondents also gave negative marks to ND and its leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
According to the poll, Greeks were divided on President Prokopis Pavlopoulos. Forty-nine percent gave him a negative mark while 47 percent regarded him positively.
The term of the current government which led Greece out of the bailout era last summer, ends in autumn this year.
Tsipras has repeatedly said lately that the next national elections will be held in October 2019, dismissing numerous media reports of snap elections this spring.
