NAIROBI, March 28 (Xinhua) -- Kenyan police said Thursday they are interrogating three suspected human traffickers who were arrested on the outskirts of Nairobi and rescued 25 Burundi nationals on transit to Asia.

The police from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the three were arrested during a raid conducted at their home in Ruiru, Kiambu County where they held the 25 female Burundians hostage.

"The victims all aged between 24 years and 33 years-were being held hostage at the said home in Gwa-Kairu area in Kiambu County pending transit to Asian countries," DCI said in a statement.

The suspected smugglers were expected in court on Thursday and the police said most of the victims are escaping poor treatment in their country and go to Asia to seek for jobs.

The authorities have intensified the ongoing crackdown on undocumented migrant workers that have seen homes raided and hundreds of migrants, refugees and asylum seekers arrested around the country.

The country's immigration department has set up a hotline number for citizens to report irregular migrants in their neighborhoods.
