Lebanon's interior minister pledges to improve condition of prisons

BEIRUT, March 28 (Xinhua) -- Lebanese Interior Minister Raya El Hassan emphasized on Thursday the need to improve the condition of prisons in Lebanon in compliance with human rights' standards, the National News Agency reported.

"We will do a series of field visits to prisons to adopt strategies to improve their conditions in coordination with the Directorate of the General Security," Hassan said.

Her remarks came during the launching ceremony of the program "Assisting in the development of procedures adopted in Lebanese prisons," funded by the U.S. embassy's Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL).
