URUMQI, April 1 (Xinhua) -- Total output of the Tarim oilfield in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region surpassed 350 million tonnes of oil-gas equivalent as of late March, PetroChina Tarim Oilfield Company said Monday.
The annual output reached 26.7 million tonnes of oil-gas equivalent in 2018 from around 34,000 tonnes 30 years ago and will exceed 30 million tonnes in 2020 as planned.
Tarim Basin is the largest petroliferous basin in the country and one of the most difficult to explore due to harsh ground environment and complicated underground conditions.
The huge amount of crude oil and natural gas produced since PetroChina established its regional oilfield company in 1989 has played a key role in safeguarding the country's energy security and promoting social and economic growth in Xinjiang.
