CURITIBA, April 2 (Xinhua) -- Former Villarreal striker Marco Ruben netted a hat-trick as Atletico Paranaense beat six-time champions Boca Juniors 3-0 in their Copa Libertadores group match here on Tuesday.
Ruben opened the scoring for the Brazilian side in the 35th minute by somehow angling his body to fire in a first-time shot after appearing to overrun Lucho Gonzalez's pass.
The Argentine then struck twice in the space of 12 second-half minutes, condemning Boca to their first loss of the campaign.
The result saw Atletico leapfrog the Buenos Aires side at the top of Group G with two wins and a loss from three matches, two points ahead of Boca.
Meanwhile, San Lorenzo moved to the top of Group F after a Marcelo Herrera strike gave the Argentine team a 1-0 win over Brazil's Palmeiras.
In Paraguayan capital Asuncion, hosts Cerro Porteno overcame Uruguay's Nacional thanks to a first-half Victor Caceres goal.
In other matches on Tuesday, Ecuador's LDU Quito drew 3-3 at CD San Jose in Bolivia, Peru's Melgar won 1-0 at home to Colombia's Junior and Chilean side Palestino romped to a 3-0 home win over Peru's Alianza Lima.
