ADEN, Yemen, April 3 (Xinhua) -- The international medical charity Doctors Without Borders (MSF) said Wednesday that it decided to suspend its activities in the southern port city of Aden after a security incident against one of its facilities in the city.
The MSF announced in a statement that it has officially decided to suspend receiving patient cases after a group of unknown gunmen kidnapped a patient from its hospital based in Omar Mukhtar neighborhood of Aden province.
"The MSF has decided to stop admitting patients to the hospital starting from Wednesday noon. This decision has been taken since the abduction of a patient and any violence against the MSF staff or patients within the organization's facilities cannot be tolerated," it said.
"We will review the decision as soon as the security situation improves from our point of view and appreciation," it added.
It's the first time for the MSF to suspend its work in Aden and the organization has been operating in the southern city since 2015 and offers its services to patients free of charge, according to the statement.
The government-controlled city witnesses sporadic security incidents despite the efforts of the newly-recruited security forces that are trying to limit such chaotic attacks.
The southern port city of Aden, where the Saudi-backed Yemeni government has been based since 2015, is considered as Yemen's temporary capital.
The Yemeni government, allied with the Saudi-led Arab military coalition, has been battling Iran-backed Shiite Houthi rebels for control of the country for more than three years.
