LONDON, April 4 (Xinhua) -- Britain's Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's new Instagram account has broken the record for the fastest time to gain one million followers on Instagram, Guinness World Records said Wednesday.
The royal couple launched their official account named "sussexroyal" on Tuesday and the account reached the one million milestone in just 5 hours and 45 minutes, Guinness World Records said in a press release.
As of Thursday, the account has gained 3.4 million followers.
The previous record was held by Korean pop star Kang Daniel, who hit the mark in 11 hours and 36 minutes in January, according to Guinness World Records.
In their first post, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex shared 10 images featuring a monogram symbol of their names followed by nine pictures of their official visits around the world.
"Welcome to our official Instagram," the caption reads. "We look forward to sharing the work that drives us, the causes we support, important announcements, and the opportunity to shine a light on key issues. We thank you for your support, and welcome you to @sussexroyal," it continues.
The first post has garnered more than 1.1 million likes and 39,200 comments, which reflects their popularity around the world.
As the couple are expecting their first baby in the coming weeks, their followers are eagerly waiting to see them sharing pictures of their baby.
The British royal family has been attempting to build closer connections with the public via social media.
Last month, Queen Elizabeth II posted her first Instagram image on the official account @theroyalfamily by sharing an image of a letter from 19th century inventor and mathematician Charles Babbage written to Queen Victoria and Prince Albert.
