WINDHOEK, April 4 (Xinhua) -- The Namibian government will expedite the finalization of mechanisms and agreements between Namibia and Ghana to enhance mutually beneficial ties, an official said on Thursday.
Engelbrecht Nawatiseb, Deputy Minister of Information and Communication Technology, said here that the Namibian cabinet directed government agencies to expedite 11 separate projects under the framework of Namibia-Ghana Joint Permanent Commission of Cooperation (JPCC).
The cabinet directives followed discussions held during the 3rd session of the JPCC, which took place on Feb. 25 to 27 in Windhoek, the capital city of Namibia.
During their discussions, the two sides signed a previously pending memorandum of understanding (MoU) as well as other agreements to further deepen cooperation.
According to Nawatiseb, fields under the framework include trade, marine resources, environment and tourism, social welfare, sports, capacity building, health, among others.
"The Ministry of Mines and Energy is directed to ensure the finalization and implementation of the harmonized draft MoU in the sphere of oil and gas covering exploration, development, production, refining, storage and marketing of petroleum product," Nawatiseb said.
Other areas of cooperation to be cemented also include the finalization of the proposed MoU on development as well as the promotion of small and medium sized enterprises.
