JAKARTA, April 5 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia said on Friday that no citizen was affected by a major forest fire in South Korea's province of Gangwon despite many Indonesians staying in the province.

"From our updated information, so far there has been no Indonesian citizen affected in the forest fire," Indonesian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Armanatha Nasir said.

Referring to the data compiled by the ministry, he said that 727 Indonesian citizens are staying in Gangwon province, who are part of 42,000 Indonesians living and working in South Korea, mostly migrant workers.

He said Indonesia has conveyed deepest condolences to families whose relatives are affected by the huge forest fire.

The forest fire killed a local resident and injured 11 others in the province's Goseong city, reports said. The fire also gutted at least 400 houses and 500 hectares of land. Authorities have evacuated some 4,000 residents.

South Korean authorities have declared the forest fire as a national disaster, the first one after a crude oil leak in western part of Korean Peninsula in 2007.
