DAMASCUS, April 9 (Xinhua) -- A total of three soldiers were killed on Tuesday when a rebel group attacked a military position in the northern countryside of Hama province in central Syria, state news agency SANA reported.

The rebels, some wearing bomb vests, attacked the military post before daybreak Tuesday and were discovered by the soldiers.

The soldiers clashed with the assailants and killed them along with the three suicide bombers who detonated their vests during the clashes.

It's the latest in a string of attacks in the countryside of Hama and the nearby Idlib province in northwestern Syria recently.

Meanwhile, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights war monitor said six soldiers were killed in the attack that was carried out by the rebel group called Ansar al-Tawhid.

It said the three suicide bombers were killed when they detonated their bomb vests.

A day earlier, the observatory said the Syrian army was heavily shelling the rebel positions in the Hama countryside and Idlib.

The Syrian government has repeatedly accused the rebels of violating and breaching the de-escalation zones' deal that was brokered by Turkey and Russia last September about Idlib and the nearby countryside of Hama.
