SYDNEY, April 10 (Xinhua) -- One of Sydney's most famous landmarks the Sydney Opera House has finished the refurbishment of two new rooms as part of a 273-million-Australian dollar (197 million U.S. dollars) upgrade on the iconic site.
Designed originally as a library and then remodeled as a series of restaurants, the north-facing end of the innovative building will now know become known as the Yallamundi Rooms -- meaning "storyteller."
Drawing from Indigenous Australian culture, the Sydney Opera House Chief Executive Louise Herron said on Wednesday that Bennelong Point, where the Sydney Opera House is located, has a long history as a place for gathering, singing and dancing.
"For generations, this has been a place for storytelling and our hope is that we have now created a long-term place that will be for further generations a place where stories are told and stories are made," she said.
Worth around 15 million Australian dollars (10.7 million U.S. dollars), the new rooms can be hired for as many as 400 people at a cost of 10,000 Australian dollars (7,130 U.S. dollars).
The state government expects its investment to be recovered within the next 10 years.
In 2020, the Concert Hall will be the next area of the building to undergo a refurbishment.
