LONDON, April 10 (Xinhua) -- British gross domestic product (GDP) grew by 0.2 percent in February 2019, compared with the previous month, according to figures released Wednesday by the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

In February, monthly growth in the production sector and services sector was 0.6 percent and 0.1 percent, respectively.

Meanwhile, UK GDP grew by 0.3 percent in the three months to February 2019, compared with the preceding three month, between September and November 2018.

The services sector expanded by 0.4 percent in the three months to February 2019, compared with the previous three-month period, the largest contributor to GDP growth.

However, the construction sector contracted by 0.6 percent in the three months to February 2019, resulting in a small negative contribution to GDP growth.

Rob Kent-Smith, head of GDP for ONS, said, "GDP growth remained modest in the latest three months. Services again drove the economy, with a continued strong performance in IT."

"Manufacturing also continued to recover after weakness at the end of last year with the often-erratic pharmaceutical industry, chemicals and alcohol performing well in recent months," Smith added.
