WUHAN, April 11 (Xinhua) -- With the recruitment drive for the second batch of game-time volunteers half-way to its close, the seventh Military World Games Executive Committee announced on Thursday that the number of applications had reached a total of 78,000.
According to the Executive Committee, the applications they received cover a wide range of ages and occupations.
College students make up the largest share. Wuhan has China's largest enrollment of undergraduates, a total of over one million in over 80 colleges.
Nearly 1,000 veterans also expressed their willingness to become volunteers.
The Executive Committee confirmed they also received a flood of applications from abroad, some of whom have impressive resumes serving big sports events in the past.
Zhu Jin, director of volunteer department of the organizing committee, said that to ensure quality service during the Games, volunteers have to go through training and examinations before they can take up their posts.
Online recruiting will stay open until May 28, 2019.
The seventh Military World Games will be held in Wuhan, China from October 18-27, 2019.
