BEIJING, April 11 (Xinhua) -- China will send 89 athletes for the Asian Athletics Championships slated for April 21 to 24 in Doha, Qatar.
Top sprinter Su Bingtian and world shot put champion Gong Lijiao will spearhead the delegation, said the Chinese Athletics Association here on Thursday.
However, Su will skip the men's 100 meters, together with Xie Zhenye, and instead line up for the 4x100m relay in order to tune up better for the 2019 World Athletics Championships.
Among the Chinese squad are Liang Jinsheng, female sprinter Wei Yongli, women pole vault Asian record holder Li Ling, javelin thrower Lv Huihui and long jumper Huang Changzhou.
Last year, Su twice clocked in 9.91 seconds in the men's 100 meters to level the Asian record two times.
In the 2017 Asian Athletics Championships, China ranked second overall with eight gold, seven silver and five bronze medals, including the men's 4x100m relay crown.
The 2019 Asian Athletics Championships will take place at Khalifa International Stadium in Doha.
