TOKYO, April 11 (Xinhua) -- Japan's Daihatsu Motor Co. said on Thursday that it plans to recall about 1.92 million cars in Japan due to manufacturing faults that could cause errors in the braking system.
The mini-vehicle maker reported 416 faulty cases in total to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, local media reported.
Two types of faults affect the brakes, according to the company.
Daihatsu explained that the cowl panel was not properly waterproofed, which will possibly cause rusting or perforation of the brake booster, leading to a longer braking distance.
The company also said that the strut set underwent improper greasing, which may cause malfunction in the brakes.
The recall will involve 1,916,973 vehicles of 22 models, including the Move and Tanto mini-vehicles produced between December 2010 and September 2018.
The recall will also cover the Stella and Pixis Mega mini-cars, which were manufactured by Daihatsu, and sold by Subaru Corp. and Toyota Motor Corp., respectively.
According to Daihatsu, no accidents have taken place so far due to the possible causes of faulty brakes.
