VILNIUS, April 17 (Xinhua) -- Lithuania wants to contribute to the reconstruction of Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris after the devastating fire, Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite said on Wednesday.
"Lithuania is shocked by the Notre-Dame tragedy and is determined to help France in order to rebuild it," Grybauskaite was quoted as saying in a statement released by her office.
Notre-Dame is not just a symbol of France, but also "home of our hearts," therefore Lithuania and its people are ready to help and contribute, Grybauskaite added.
Meanwhile, Lithuanian Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis said that he already addressed the government of France with Lithuania's offer to contribute.
"I offered Lithuania's assistance as moral, technical and financial support is now important. We should decide how Lithuania may contribute to the elimination of consequences of the recent tragedy," Skvernelis told local media.
Skvernelis obliged members of his cabinet to prepare corresponding proposals by next Wednesday. Paris Notre-Dame Cathedral was ravaged by fire this Monday.
