KIEV, April 18 (Xinhua) -- Ukrainian presidential candidate Volodymyr Zelensky said Thursday he will consider calling an early parliamentary election if he wins the presidential runoff on April 21.
"We will think about dissolving the parliament ... We will benefit from it," said Zelensky, nominated by the Servant of the People political party, in an interview with online media outlet RBK-Ukraine.
He said the Ukrainian legislation leaves little time for dissolving the parliament and conveying the early election.
According to Ukrainian law, the president has the right to call a snap election no later than six months before the mandate of the parliament expires.
The powers of the current parliament expire on Nov. 27, while next scheduled parliamentary elections in Ukraine are to be held on Oct. 27.
Zelensky and incumbent President Petro Poroshenko garnered 30.24 percent and 15.95 percent of the vote respectively in the first round of the election on March 31. Since no candidate got more than 50 percent, the top two will compete in the runoff scheduled for April 21.
