JAKARTA, April 21 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian government condemned on Sunday the deadly multiple attacks on churches and hotels in Sri Lanka that had killed at least 207 people.
"Government and people of Indonesia conveyed deepest condolences for the victims and their families," a statement released by Indonesia Foreign Affairs Ministry said.
The ministry said that government through its embassy in Colombo continues to monitor the development, coordinate with local authorities and association of nationals residing in Sri Lanka to assure the safety of its citizens from any impact of the heinous multiple attacks.
So far no Indonesian national has been affected from the attacks, the statement said.
An Indonesian citizen who stayed in one of the attacked hotels, Shangri-La hotel, when the attack took place, was confirmed safe, and now is under protection of local authorities.
Several other Indonesians who also stayed in the hotel were also reported safe as they went out from the hotel when the attacks occurred in the morning.
The ministry said that 374 Indonesian citizens are staying in Sri Lanka, of which 140 of them stay in Colombo.
Indonesia believes that Sri Lanka government can appropriately handle the situation. Indonesia offers assistance should the Sri Lankan government need it, the statement said.
The coordinated multiple attacks on churches and hotels in Sri Lanka on Sunday have killed at least 207 people, injured over 450 others so far.
