DOHA, April 22 (Xinhua) -- China bagged two golds at the 23rd Asian Athletics Championships on Sunday as Lyu Huihui topped the women's Javelin throw and shot putter Gong Lijiao added another.
The 29-year-old Lyu warmed up with a 64.92m effort in the opening round and then refreshed the record with 65.83m in the second round, outstripping the second-placed Annu Ran by 5.61m to secure the title. Thailand's Natta Nachan won the bronze with 56.01m.
In women's shot put, reigning world champion and Diamond League winner Gong showed her dominance as her opening round of 18.52m was enough to secure her first continental title.
The 30-year-old reached 19.18m in her second throw to blast the competition out of reach. Noora Jasim was second at 18.00m, setting a national record for Bahrain, with Gong's compatriot Song Jiayuan taking the bronze with 17.70m.
