JAKARTA, April 22 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia will hold an international chess championship starting on Monday, with the aim to foster young players across the country, Indonesian Youth and Sport minister Imam Nahrawi announced today.
The tournament, held by Indonesia's PT Taspen firm, features a total of 100 participants from 20 teams and will last for six days.
"Let's persistently encourage Indonesian young chess players.. [ We should] encourage them, support them and facilitate them," Nahrawi said.
"This will put us on par with other nations," he added.
