LILONGWE, April 23 (Xinhua) -- Tanzanian President John Magufuli is scheduled to visit Malawi on Wednesday, Malawi Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ministry announced in a statement Tuesday.
The statement says Magufuli and his wife, Janet Magufuli, are expected to land at Malawi's Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe at 09:00hrs local time on Wednesday and the two are expected to be welcomed by Malawi leader Peter Mutharika and his wife, Gertrude Mutharika.
The two heads of states and governments will lead the bilateral talks on Wednesday on thematic areas aimed at strengthening the cordial relationship between the two countries, said the statement.
On Thursday, Magufuli, accompanied by Mutharika is scheduled to officially open the 2019 Tobacco Marketing Season.
This is the first time for Magufuli to visit Malawi since he rose to power in 2015.
The visit comes at a time when the two countries are yet to resolve a boundary dispute on Lake Malawi which Tanzanian government argues it owns, contrary to colonial boundaries set in the 1890s.
Local analysts have since described Magufuli's visit as an opportunity for the two leaders to table the issue and find a lasting solution.
