MUMBAI, April 24 (Xinhua) -- A heart transplant surgery was conducted and successfully saved the life of a two-year-old child, a release by Fortis Malar Hospital in south India said Wednesday.
The recipient child was diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy and got admitted repeatedly with complaints of breathlessness. As he showed no signs of improvement, heart transplant was the only solution.
The surgery was conducted by a team of doctors from Fortis Malar Hospital.
The family of the donar child, who had suffered from irreversible brain damage and passed away in February, decided to donate the organs to help save and enrich the lives of six people, of whom four were children.
