SHENZHEN, April 25 (Xinhua) -- Customs police have seized more than 2,500 products made from endangered species this year, Shenzhen Customs said Thursday.
Shenzhen Customs said they had investigated 32 cases related to endangered species smuggling from this year, seizing items including ivory tusks and products, crocodile leather, sperm whale teeth and parrot eggs.
In an operation launched last month, the anti-smuggling bureau of Shenzhen Customs arrested 10 suspects in Shenzhen, Shanghai and east China's Jiangsu Province, and seized over 200 kg of items including two ivory tusks and products, rhino horn products and red coral.
China has been intensifying its efforts in wildlife protection over the years. On Dec. 31, 2016, China declared it would enforce a complete stop to its domestic ivory trade within a year. On Dec. 31, 2017, processing or selling ivory and its products was officially banned in China.
