JAKARTA, April 26 (Xinhua) -- A total of 776 young shuttlers from 13 countries and regions will compete in the BWF Junior Grand Prix 2019 in Indonesia next week, the organizing committee announced on Friday.
According to Tony Soehartono, head of the organizing committee, 1,238 players have signed up for the event. The enthusiasm of the players was high so that the Indonesian badminton association and BWF had to restrict the number of participants.
Head of the association's sport development Susy Susanti said that the international tournament will help them to monitor the progress of young players.
"We are glad, because we can monitor the performance of our players," she said.
Susy said the tournament will be a warm up for the country's young players ahead of the Asia Junior Championship and World Junior Championship.
The tournament is scheduled to be held from April 30-May 5 in the PB Jaya Raya Bintaro Sport Stadium of Tangerang, on the outskirts of Jakarta.
