MUMBAI, April 26 (Xinhua) -- India's financial capital, Mumbai, is witnessing a rising incidence of diabetic and hypertensive patients, as per a survey conducted by the city's municipal corporation and released on Friday.
The survey, compiled from six medical camps held recently in the city, found that 25 percent patients were diabetic and 26 percent were suffering from hypertension indicating a rising incidence of these disorders, said the health officer of the corporation.
A total of 590 patients were screened at the health camps which were largely over 30 years in age including pregnant women.
The rate of cervical cancer is also rising in women.
India is considered as a diabetic capital of the world with over 60 million adults or 7.8 percent of the population suffering from diabetes. Of these, more than 30 million are undiagnosed or untreated, according to the country's health ministry.
