JERUSALEM, April 27 (Xinhua) -- Israel's army said on Saturday it had concluded its participation in a multinational military exercise in Germany, marking the first time the Israeli military sent forces for training on foreign land.

The "Allied Spirit X" exercise took place in Germany last week, with the participation of several countries, including the United States, Germany, Britain and Israel.

The army dispatched its Reconnaissance Battalion of the Paratroopers Brigade to Germany for the exercise.

"The purposes of the exercise are to improve interoperability between the militaries, enhance mutual learning processes and train the forces," a military spokesperson said in a statement. "During the exercise, the troops simulated combat in various scenarios while acquiring new techniques and preserving existing skills."

"Carrying out the exercise on German soil constitutes a milestone for the IDF (Israel Defense Forces)," the Paratroopers Reconnaissance Battalion Commander Oded Ziman said in the statement.

Aimed at improving communications between NATO allies and partners, Allied Spirit is an annual exercise.

The recent exercise took place between March 30 and April 17, with some 5,600 participants from 15 nations.
