TAIPEI, April 29 (Xinhua) -- Consumers in Taiwan expect better investment opportunities in the stock market in the coming six months, but are less confident of the employment market, according to the results of a monthly survey released by the Research Center for Taiwan Economic Development on Monday.

The Consumer Confidence Index (CCI) rebounded 0.97 points from March to 85.33 points in April but still remained in the pessimistic range, as a reading between 100 and 200 points suggests optimism while an index below 100 points indicates pessimism.

Five sub-indicators on the CCI, namely the timing of investment in the stock market, consumer prices, local economic outlook, the timing to buy durable goods and household economic conditions, posted higher readings in April. Still, all of them remained below 100 points, falling in the pessimistic range.

Only the sub-reading for the employment opportunities in the coming six months was in the optimistic range, scoring 100 points in April, down 0.65 points from March.

The random survey interviewed 2,693 people aged 20 or above on the island between April 19 and 23, on what their thoughts on the economy are for the next six months.
