MUMBAI, April 29 (Xinhua) -- A fire broke out at a building where a retail-chain Big Bazaar outlet operates, police officials said Monday.
The fire-brigade received call at 17:12 and five fire engines with a Quick Response Vehicle were dispatched, a statement by Mumbai Fire Brigade said, noting that the fire was confined to the ground floor structure of the retail chain.
People inside the store managed to rush out to safety and no casualties have been reported so far, a police official said.
According to Maharashtra state data, there have been over 49,391 incidents of fire in the country's financial capital Mumbai over the past decade, killing more than 600 people.
Faulty electricity systems were the reason behind 33,946 blaze, 1,116 incidents were due to gas leakage while 14,329 cases were due to other reasons.
