OTTAWA, April 29 (Xinhua) -- Toyota Motor will start to manufacture the Lexus NX SUV in its plant in Cambridge of Canada starting 2022, CTV reported Monday.
Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada released the news at an event at its Cambridge plant on Monday.
Both a standard and hybrid version of the vehicle will be made in the plant for the North American market.
The company did not specify how much money the company was planning to invest, or how many jobs the new assembly line might mean when it starts.
The new product announcement by Toyota came after Ontario's manufacturing sector had been hit by major job loss announcements in recent months.
General Motors Canada announced last November that it would close its Canada's Oshawa plant by the end of the year at a loss of nearly 3,000 jobs, while Fiat Chrysler Automobiles said in March that it would cut a shift at its Canadian Windsor plant later this year at a loss of about 1,500 jobs.
