ULAN BATOR, April 30 (Xinhua) -- Mongolia on Tuesday launched a national project to protect children's rights, authorities said.
"We are there launching a year-long national campaign called 'Child Protector' to protect children's rights," Davaasambuu Budzaan, head of the department in charge of child protection at the National Police Agency (NPA), said at the launching ceremony in Ulan Bator.
Participation of parents is crucial to protecting children from crimes, Budzaan said, noting that the project aims to curb crimes by increasing parental supervision and attention to their kids.
More than 500 children became victims of crimes in the country in the first quarter of this year, up over 20 percent from the same period last year, according to the country's NPA.
