JAKARTA, May 1 (Xinhua) -- China crushed India 15-0 in its opening match of the group round robin competition here on Wednesday at the 2019 Asia Cup Women's Softball Championship.
A total of 10 teams compete in the event, arranged to be played from May 1-7 at the Gelora Bung Karno's Softball Stadium. China together with Japan, South Korea, India and Thailand have been drawn in Group A.
In Group B are Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore, Chinese Taipei and Hong Kong, China. The top four teams of each group will advance to the non-Page single elimination playoffs, starting on Saturday, till the winner shall be crowned after semifinals and final.
The top three teams of this event will qualify to play the softball World Cup, and the top six teams in Jakarta (exclude Japan, host of the Games) will advance to the final Olympic qualifier. Together with other two Oceania teams, these eight teams will play for the WBSC softball Asia/Oceania 2019 qualifying event for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games in Shanghai, from September 24-29. Only the winner of that game will be present in the softball event in Tokyo 2020.
China will compete with South Korea on Thursday.
