ABU DHABI, May 2 (Xinhua) -- President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan ordered on Thursday the release of 3,005 prisoners serving various sentences on the occasion of the holy Muslim fasting month of Ramadan.
"The president also pledged to settle the financial obligations of the released prisoners," according to the state-owned WAM news agency.
The move is part of the president's efforts to offer prisoners a chance to have a new life and alleviate the hardships encountered by the prisoners' families.
