TASHKENT, May 3 (Xinhua) -- Uzbekistan's Senate approved Friday a new law allowing for the privatization of non-agricultural land for the first time in the country's history.
Previously, all land belonged to the state, the most populous country in Central Asia with over 33 million people.
Citizens of Uzbekistan can privatize land plots provided for individual housing construction and maintenance of a residential house.
Funds obtained from the privatization of land will be directed to an urban development fund under the ministry of economy and industry.
