NAIROBI, May 7 (Xinhua) -- Kenya will compete in a tough group as they make their second appearance at the World Rugby U-20 Trophy, which will be staged from July 9-21 in Sao Jose dos Campos, Brazil.

"At this stage, you can't wish for a better draw because all the teams are strong. But we start off in a very tough group in Brazil. Uruguay have been in the Under 20 Trophy for long. They will be taking part in it for the seventh successive time," said Kenya head coach Odera here on Tuesday.

Kenya has been drawn with 2017 champions Japan, Uruguay and the winner of the North America qualifiers between Canada and USA.

Japan U-20 finished second in 2010, 2011 and 2012 and were fourth in 2013 .

"Japan has just been relegated from the top-tier but return with vengeance. Add the winner of the qualifier between Canada and USA and it will be a difficult job for us," said Odera.

This Brazil appearance will be the second time that Kenya's young team will be taking their game to the global stage.

The first appearance was in 2009, when Kenya hosted the tournament in Nairobi finishing fourth.

Kenya, the Africa champions, dethroned former champions Namibia 21-18 in the African qualifier in Nairobi to win the continental ticket. Senegal and Uganda were the other teams in the competition.

Brazil will be making their first appearance in the annual event, which is entering its 12th year this year. Enditem
